Syncing Garmin with Apple Health and GoChallenge

Learn how to bring your Garmin data to the GoChallenge app using Apple Health

Updated over 5 months ago

To track your GoChallenge activity with a Garmin device, you’ll need to connect Garmin Connect to Apple Health – and then select Apple Health as your tracking method inside the GoChallenge app.

Here’s how to do it step-by-step:

1. What you need before you begin

  • An iPhone running iOS 15 or later

  • The Garmin Connect app installed from the App Store

  • A Garmin device paired with Garmin Connect

  • The GoChallenge app installed on your Apple device

2. Connect Garmin to Apple Health

  1. Open Garmin Connect on your iPhone

  2. Tap More (three dots or lines) > Settings > Connected Apps

  3. Choose Apple Health

  4. Tap Connect with Apple and follow the prompts

  5. When asked what data to share:

    • You can tap Allow All for full sync (recommended)

    • Or, at minimum, make sure Steps and Distance are enabled

✅ GoChallenge requires Steps and Distance to track your activity correctly. These are essential.

3. Check Permissions in Apple Health

  1. Open the Apple Health app

  2. Tap your profile icon (top-right)

  3. Go to Privacy > Apps > Garmin Connect

  4. Confirm Steps and Distance are switched ON

  5. (Optional) In categories like Steps, tap Data Sources & Access > Edit > drag Garmin Connect to the top to prioritise it

4. Select Apple Health in GoChallenge

Once Garmin is connected to Apple Health:

  1. Open the GoChallenge app

  2. Choose Apple Health during the onboarding set up

📲 This step is key. Even if your Garmin is syncing, your GoChallenge progress won’t count until Apple Health is set as your tracking source.

5. Need to Troubleshoot?

If your steps or distance aren't appearing:

  • Open Garmin Connect to trigger a fresh sync

  • Reopen the Apple Health app to refresh data

  • In GoChallenge, confirm Apple Health is active

  • In GoChallenge swipe / pull down on the homescreen to force a sync

  • Double-check Steps and Distance permissions in both apps

If issues persist, try:

  • Disconnecting and reconnecting Garmin Connect in Apple Health

  • Reinstalling Garmin Connect, then setting it up again from scratch
