If you use WHOOP on an Android phone, GoChallenge can only display activity that has been written into Health Connect. That means the flow of data looks like this:
WHOOP → Health Connect → GoChallenge
GoChallenge reads distance and activity data from Health Connect. It does not connect directly to WHOOP.
Part 1 — First-Time Setup (Required)
1. Enable Health Connect on Your Device
Health Connect is the Android health data hub for apps and wearables. On Android 14 and above, it’s integrated directly into the OS. If you are on an older version of Android, you will need to install Health Connect from the Google Play Store.
2. Grant WHOOP Permission to Write Data
This ensures WHOOP can export your activity into the central Health Connect database.
Open your WHOOP app.
Go to Settings > Integrations > Health Connect.
Enable the Health Connect integration.
Allow WHOOP to write activity and related data (distance, workouts, etc.) to Health Connect.
3. Grant GoChallenge Permission to Read Data
Once WHOOP is linked, you need to let GoChallenge retrieve your activity.
Open Health Connect on your phone.
Go to App Permissions.
Select GoChallenge.
Allow GoChallenge to read:
Distance
Activity sessions
Steps (optional)
Part 2 — Confirm Your Data Appears in Health Connect
Before GoChallenge can display anything, Health Connect needs to receive real activity data from WHOOP.
Open Health Connect.
Tap Browse data > Activity > Distance.
Look for recent entries.
Troubleshooting Tip: If you don’t see WHOOP activity here, WHOOP hasn’t written the data yet, or your permissions are not fully enabled. Try force-closing both apps, opening WHOOP first to let it load, and then checking Health Connect again.
Part 3 — Manage Data Source Priority (Optional)
Health Connect lets you prioritize which app "wins" when multiple apps write the same kind of data (like steps or distance).
Open Health Connect.
Go to Manage data > Data sources and priority.
Pick the category you want to manage (e.g., Steps or Distance).
Drag WHOOP to the top of the list.
This tells Health Connect to prefer WHOOP's data when merging overlapping activity from different apps.
Part 4 — What to Expect in Practice
🔄 Sync Timing & "Wake Up" Syncs
WHOOP doesn’t always write to Health Connect in the background in real time. Android often restricts background syncing to save battery. You usually need to actively open the WHOOP app on your phone to force the sync. Make sure the WHOOP app has fully updated its own dashboard before checking GoChallenge.
⚠️ Android Limitations You Should Know
Unlike Apple Health on iOS, Android support for WHOOP → Health Connect has some known inconsistencies, particularly around step syncing. Community reports indicate that step count (and sometimes heart rate) may not always export reliably, even with all permissions enabled.
What this means:
Distance and logged workout sessions are reliably exported.
Automatic step export may be limited, delayed, or unavailable depending on your device.
Note: This is a platform and vendor behaviour regarding how WHOOP communicates with Android, not a GoChallenge limitation.
Quick Checklist
Before checking GoChallenge for your data, ensure:
Health Connect is installed and set up.
WHOOP’s Health Connect integration is enabled.
GoChallenge has read permissions in Health Connect.
Recent activity appears under "Distance" in Health Connect.
(Optional) WHOOP is prioritized via Data sources & priority.
Summary
GoChallenge displays activity data that lives in Health Connect. For Android users with WHOOP, you must enable the integration in WHOOP, grant read access to GoChallenge, and confirm your activity appears in Health Connect first. Be aware that background syncing usually requires opening the WHOOP app, and step export may be limited by Android/WHOOP behaviours.
