Health Connect can receive steps from more than one place at the same time; your phone itself, and any tracker app you've connected (such as Samsung Health, Fitbit, Garmin or Strava).
Health Connect merges those sources into a single total rather than adding them together. When two sources disagree about the same period, the one higher up the App sources list wins. Your phone sits at the bottom of that list by default.
So if an app you no longer use is sitting above your real tracker, your steps in GoChallenge can look lower than the numbers on your watch.
Open Health Connect
Where you find Health Connect depends on your phone and your Android version. Try these in order:
Open the Health Connect app from your app drawer.
Or open your phone's Settings and search for "Health Connect".
Or open it from inside your tracker app's settings; several apps such as Google Health link straight to it.
Once you're in, tap the sync icon in the top right to pull in the latest data before you change anything.
Set your tracker priority
Scroll down and tap Manage data. Depending on your Android version, this sits under Permissions and data or Data and access.
Tap Data sources and priority.
Choose Activity from the category list.
Under App sources, touch and hold the handle next to your preferred tracker, then drag it to the top of the list.
Remove app sources you don't use
On the same screen, tap the edit icon at the top.
Remove any app you've stopped using.
Removing an app source doesn't delete anything. The app can still write to Health Connect; its data just stops counting toward your totals.
Check it worked
Compare your steps total in Health Connect with the number on your tracker; they should match.
Open GoChallenge and pull down on the home screen to trigger a fresh sync.
Give it a few minutes. Data can take a little while to settle across Health Connect, your tracker and GoChallenge.
Still not right? Check where your steps are coming from
If your numbers still look off, it's worth seeing exactly which apps are involved.
In Health Connect, tap Data and access.
Tap Activity, then Steps.
This screen shows you which apps can read your Health Connect data, and which apps can write to it.
Tap See all entries to see every step entry along with the app or device it came from.
If your steps are arriving from an app you didn't expect, or from several apps at once, that's your culprit.
Still stuck? Email [email protected] with a screenshot of that entries screen and we'll sort it.
