Every step counts – but your safety counts even more. Whether you're going for gold on the leaderboard or strolling with your squad, at GoChallenge, we believe progress should never come at the cost of safety. These walking tips are here to help you move with confidence and stay injury-free.
1. | Wear the right footwear
Start from the ground up.
Choose walking shoes with proper arch support and cushioning.
Avoid flip-flops / sandals or worn-out trainers.
Moisture-wicking socks help prevent blisters.
2. | Keep good posture
Strong posture = efficient movement.
Back straight, shoulders relaxed.
Eyes forward (not down at your phone!).
Lightly engage your core as you walk.
3. | Plan safe routes
Know where you're going.
Use well-lit, familiar paths.
Walk on the pavement where available.
If there's no path, walk facing traffic.
Avoid isolated areas, especially alone.
4. | Check the weather
Because the weather doesn’t care about your step count.
Wear layers or breathable clothing depending on conditions.
Bring an umbrella or waterproof jacket when needed.
Avoid walking on icy or slippery surfaces.
5. | Be visible after dark
Especially during early morning or evening walks.
Wear reflective gear or bright colours.
Add a clip-on LED or reflective armband.
Stick to well-lit areas.
6. | Keep aware of your surroundings
Music is great, distractions aren’t.
Keep headphone volume low.
Avoid texting while walking.
Trust your instincts if something feels off.
7. | Stay hydrated and energised
Fuel your body, even for shorter walks.
Bring water with you.
Eat a light snack if you're walking for longer periods.
Avoid pushing through fatigue – pace yourself.
8. | Listen to your body
Discomfort = pause, not push through.
Rest if you're sore or feel sharp pain.
Stretch before and after long walks.
If pain lingers, take a break.
